So before we get started, let me first tell you that this site is not about the wonderful but short-lived television show, ‘Firefly’ or the movie that followed called ‘Serenity’, sorry to disappoint you. Instead this is a tale of my travels and rides on ‘Serenity’ which is what I have named recumbent tadpole trike.
Now if you stumbled onto this site then you are probably wondering what the heck I’m talking about, well since I call it a trike you know it has 3 wheels and it is pedal powered, sorry not a motorcycle but a tricycle. The tadpole part refers to it having 2 wheels in the front and one in the back and recumbent just indicates the position the rider sits on the trike. Okay, here’s what my Catrike Pocket looks like if it were to come from the shop but I chose what I believed is a better color or at least what suited me better and that is Lava Red.
My trike is called Serenity because of the peaceful and serene feeling I get when I ride the trike; I try not to let the bad and reckless drivers on the roadways upset me because I enjoy getting out and riding like I used to do when I was a kid. But I’m not a kid any more and haven’t been one for a long time and guess what I got older and developed typical problems of aging, not being as agile and, and… oh well I’ll think of what I was going to say in a little bit.
Riding a bicycle has always left me with a good feeling…that is until I got older. As I got older I got… fluffier..yeah that’s what my hair stylist calls it…fluffy. However, I still have CTS (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome) which makes riding a DF (Diamond Frame) bicycle very hard because my hands and wrists were going numb and it is kind of hard to steer without the use of your hands or wrists. So I got a bit fluffier and the numbness in my hands, well that still hasn’t gone away but I manage to keep it under semi-control.
Basically I had to give up bicycle riding in order to keep on working because working pays the bills. I then came across a gentleman riding a recumbent trike just across the street where I work so I stopped and talked with him about the trike. So after about six weeks of researching on the Internet I ended up driving to a nearby town and bought Serenity. I quickly hooked up with a riding group which after a few months kind of fell by the side of the road for various reasons. This was a great experience for me because they gave me some tips on riding and equipment for my trike as well as showing me several new routes to ride.
As I said the group broke up last summer and where I live it got quite hot and difficult to ride. My work schedule didn’t really help too much either so I kind of let things go and didn’t take up riding again until things started to cool down. I know my bad but that was just life.
So after the new year had started, I decided that I wanted to do something about my health because I’m tired of trying to remember to take pills for hypertension and I have a hard time remembering to take my allergy pills too. Then I started thinking, yes I can think but I don’t do it too much because it hurts my head, how boring my life had become so I decided to get out and ride my trike more. So this is where I stand, I’ve got a route set and I’m trying to ride most of the way but when I tell you later where I’m planning to ride maybe you can understand why I can’t ride all of the path.
So this is the journey of Serenity as together we take in life and the things around us.
(too corny? TOO BAD!!) 🙂
